Installing WinBatch

WinBatch is easy to install.   (If you purchased "WinBatch+Compiler", the install process is the same, with the addition of entering your license number again the first time you run the Compiler.  See instructions for “Compiler Installation”.)

A couple things to note:

-Windows must be running to install WinBatch.

-Make sure NO WinBatch WBT files are currently running.

-WinBatch cannot be installed from a drive shared over a network.

-You will generally need Administrator access to install WinBatch.

  1. Download the .zip file for WinBatch from our website and save to a local hard drive.

  2. Unzip the downloaded zip file to an empty, temporary directory - NOT to where you want to eventually install it.

  3. Once unzipped, locate and run the SETUP.EXE.  In some cases, you can run the SETUP.EXE directly from the unzip program, but it is usually safer to close the unzip program, locate the directory with Windows Explorer (Not Internet Explorer) and double-click the SETUP.EXE file that was unzipped.

  4. This will start the setup program where you will have a chance to specify where you want it installed and to choose some other options. You will be prompted for the directory to install WinBatch.  The default will be C:\PROGRAM FILES\WINBATCH on 32-bit Windows or C:\PROGRAM FILES(x86)\WINBATCH on 64-bit Windows.  It is recommended that you install WinBatch using these defaults, especially on Windows Vista and newer.

  5. Hit Next, and then examine the install specification screen.

  6. Select the desired items, (most everyone just takes the provided defaults) and let the setup process copy the files.  The Network and Control Manager extender Dlls and Help files are installed by default, so if you do not want these installed, de-select the checkbox for this item.

  7. At the end of the install, WinBatch Navigator will be launched. This is a great place to get started using WinBatch.  If you have them, you can enter your license number by selecting the [License Info] button on the lower left hand corner of the Navigator window.

WinBatch also includes WIL extender Dlls.  These are special Dlls designed to extend the built-in function set of the WIL processor.  These Dlls typically add functions not provided in the basic WIL function set, such as network commands for particular networks (Novell, Windows and others), MAPI, ODBC, and other important Application Program Interface functions as may be defined by the various players in the computer industry from time to time. Most WIL extenders must be installed separately.

To install WIL extender Dlls:

  1. Create an empty temporary directory.

  2. Download extender zip file to the directory.

  3. Unzip zip file into same directory.

  4. Close unzip program.

  5. Using Windows Explorer, find the setup.wbt file in the directory.

  6. Double-click the setup.wbt file. Extender should install in a few seconds.

  7. Optionally delete the temporary directory.

You can also install extenders using the "Extender Version Checker and Download Utility" (also known as vCheck). This utility allows you to keep up with all the extender updates posted to the website. You can download vCheck and WIL extenders from http://www.winbatch.com/download.html.

Entering License Numbers for WinBatch

  1. Once you purchase the software, you will be emailed a License ID and NUM. Be sure to have the information handy for this licensing procedure.

  2. If you are not already there, launch the WinBatch Navigator (in the Windows Start Menu, selecting All Programs | WinBatch and run WinBatch.exe).

  3. In the WinBatch Navigator window, click on the [License Info] button in the lower left corner.  In the small dialog box that appears, click the [Enter New License Numbers] button. You are now ready to begin entering your License ID and NUM.  (Sometimes, you will see a prompt stating that you are running an "unlicensed evaluation copy" of WinBatch. If this message appears select the [Enter License Info] button to enter your License ID and NUM.)

    1. In the "Registration ID" field, enter your License ID. It is generally a 6-digit number ( i.e. 823456 ).

    2. In the "Control Number" field, enter your 16-alphanumeric License NUM ( i.e. BG01-29*P...etc. ). Note: This field is NOT case-sensitive.

    3. Press OK.

    4. You may be prompted for a Licensee Name. Enter the name of the licensee. Note: This can be any name you would like.

    5. Press OK.

    6. You should see a message stating "Thank you for your support."

    7. If you get a message stating 'Invalid licensing Data' then start this process over from the beginning.
